I remember being young and making these toffee bars with my mom. They were soo delicious and easy enough to make that I was allowed to help. Even as a college student I continue to make these tasty treats. They’re so simple and yummy! Enjoy!
Total Ingredient Cost: $8.00
- Saltine crackers – enough to line cookie sheet
- Butter – 1 cup (2 sticks)
- Dark brown sugar – 1 cup
- Semi sweet chocolate chips – 2 cups
- Cookie sheet – 17″ x 11″
- Aluminum foil
- Cooking spray
Preheat oven to 400°. Line your cookie sheet with aluminum foil. After you have lined your sheet, spray the foil with your cooking spray.
Next, place your saltine crackers on the sheet until they completely cover the foil.
Once your saltines are in place, place 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of dark brown sugar in saucepan. Bring to a boil for 3 minutes, making sure to stir occasionally. Immediately pour the mixture evenly over the saltines.
Place the now covered saltines in the oven and bake for 6 minutes. Remove from oven and quickly cover with 2 cups of semi sweet chocolate chips. Use a spoon or knife to help spread the melting chocolate chips evenly over the saltines.
Cool completely by placing them in the refrigerator for approximately 20 minutes. After they have cooled, break them apart and enjoy your toffee bars!
*You can add toppings to the melting chocolate such as butterfingers, peppermint, pecans, etc.
